Covering an area of 50,000 square kilometres, Nyerere National park is Africa’s largest game reserve. The most scenic wildlife destination is the oldest and most remote in Africa.

The sporadic Lakes and channels from nearby the great Ruaha River and Rufiji River and the hot volcanic springs enhance the beauty of the Nyerere National park.

.The commonly spotted birds include African skimmer, Black-winged stilt, Dickinson’s kestrel, Northern carmine bee-eater, Böhm's bee-eater, Broad-billed roller, Palm-nut vulture, Thick-billed cuckoo, White-backed night heron, Pearl-spotted owlet, Racket-tailed roller, White-backed vulture, Yellow-billed stork and many more.
November to April is good to view the migratory birds.
Nyerere National Park is good to visit throughout the year. However, the dry season (June to October) offers the best view of wildlife.
The wild animals don’t get thick bush to hide them and roam freely. Gathering around the waterholes to drink water in the dry season is one of the most awesome views visitors can enjoy.
The wet season (October to May) the view of nature covered with green and lush and best for viewing the migratory birds in abundance.
Your entry point to the land is Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR). The distance between Selous and Dar es Saalam is 218 km, so it’s quite time taking to reach the park byroad.
There are scheduled flights from Dar connecting to the park airstrips. Normally your tour operator will pick you up from the airport and takes care of your whole trip.
A stopover at Mikumi National Park and a beach extension to Zanzibar is most recommended.
